Philippe Blain

Philip, you’re the new coach of Montpellier …

I’m not officially the coach, I need to sign a contract. But I should be in August I think.

What is your plan for Montpellier?

I would like to make a long term project, to make it a true professional club. The base will be athletic performance. We must meet the conditions and achieve success, and make a team worthy of Montpellier. It means professional organization at the club, a person responsible for communication and to find marketing partners.

What about long term sporting ambitions?

To play in Europe is an important goal.

And for the next year …

The objective is to go as far as possible in the Ligue Am and to get to the playoffs from the best possible position.

You confirmed that Rafael Redwitz will be a part of Montpellier.

Yes, the details are being finalized. Rafa and Loïc Le Marrec will be our two setters.

This is a good pick for Montpellier…

The position of setter is an extremely important position, especially when you want to build something over several years.

Do you plan to bring other players this summer?

There is already a good base of players who have shown at the end of the season they had the talent and ability. We always talk about those who come, but there are also those who were there and who remain. They are also important. There is Julien Lyneel, Nicolas Le Goff and Franck Lafitte. Philip Schneider and Loïc Le Marrec are still under contracts, Jordan Corteggiani had a great season and is in the club. The group will be completed with the players we need.
