In a highly anticipated match of the Bundesliga quarterfinals playoff series, VfB Friedrichshafen faced off against Helios Grizzlys Giesen for the second time. Following a sensational win in Friedrichshafen, Giesen had an excellent opportunity to close out the series and advance to the semifinals, while VfB Friedrichshafen faced a tough task of overturning the series after their defeat in the home match.
The match took place on Saturday evening in Hildesheim Volksbank-Arena, and both teams were highly motivated to secure a win. However, it was VfB Friedrichshafen who emerged victorious, beating Helios Grizzlys Giesen 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23) in an emotional game. This win tied the “best-of-three” quarterfinal series.
Despite the fact that VfB Friedrichshafen had been struggling in recent matches and were not in optimal condition and mood to travel to Giesen, they were able to overcome their challenges and deliver an outstanding performance. Michal Superlak of VfB Friedrichshafen was the match top scorer with 18 points, followed by Luciano Vicentin who scored 16 and Ziga Stern with 15 points.
Both teams will meet again on April 8th at the Häfler Bodensee-Airport Arena for the quarterfinals decider.
