Italy’s middle blocker Laura Melandri topped the scorers with 13 points, seven spikes and six block kills. Best scorers for Egypt were Kenzie Assem and Aya Elshamy with eight points each.
Egypt jumped out for a 14-12 lead in the first set, before Italy displayed a 4-point run to enter the first technical timeout at 16-14 and never looked back. The strong Africans did not give up in the second set. However, their comeback came too late as Italy kept the upper hand during money time (25-23). The story of the match remained the same in the third set with Italy pulling through. At the end, Egypt had 24 direct errors while Italy had 17.
