In a decisive Game 3 of the Serie A1 playoffs quarterfinals, Igor Gorgonzola Novara secured their semifinal spot by defeating Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri. The match, a direct ticket to face Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano in a bid for the finals, mirrored last season’s semifinal setup. The other side of the bracket will see Savino Del Bene Scandicci go against Allianz Vero Volley Milano.
The game, held at PalaIgor, was closely contested from the start, with both teams exchanging points across the initial sets. Led by Grobelna’s 19 points, Chieri took the first set, but Novara equalized in the second. The turning point came in the third set, where Chieri failed to capitalize on a 14-19 lead, allowing Novara to mount a comeback and eventually secure the match in a tightly contested fourth set. Russian player Marina Markova, playing as an opposite, was named MVP for the second consecutive time, scoring 23 points, with notable support from Bosetti (14 points), Szakmary (15 points, 5 blocks), and Danesi (11 points). Despite Chieri’s efforts, led by Grobelna (19 pts) and supported by Skinner’s 17 points and Zakchaiou’s 13 points (4 blocks), crucial serving errors in the late stages of the third and fourth sets undermined their performance.
