ITA: Italian Volleyball Federation gets new President after 22 years

One of the longest presidential eras in world volleyball came to end as Carlo Magri lost elections for the head of Italian federation to Pietro Bruno Cattaneo.

At the 44th National Assembly held in Rimini, Cattaneo got 52.9 % members votes while 47.02 % raised their hand for Magri. Thus, after 22 years of uninterrupted guide, Magri had to congratulate an opponent.

Cattaneo, an entrepreneur in the mass distribution sector in Milano, decided to devote his passion for sports to volleyball. His career as a sports manager began in the seventies in youth sector. Cattaneo brought Women’s team of Milano into Italian top division in the eighties. Since 1994, he joined the Italian Volleyball Federation and two years later, he was elected Councilor.

In December 2012, Cattaneo became Vice-president of the Italian federation. Since May 2008, he became the head of the Pavesi Center, a venue where national teams of Italy train. Cattaneo was awarded the bronze, silver and gold star fort sporting merits by the Italian Olympic Committee.
