ITA M: Lube prevail in galvanizing Game 1 of playoff semis against Modena

Cucine Lube Civitanova beat Azimut Modena at home in galvanizing Game 1 of the 2017/18 Italian men’s volleyball championship SuperLega UnipolSai playoff semifinals.

No.2 Lube were in front of No.3 Modena twice when it comes to the sets but still had to resolve the match in the tie-break, in which their rivals dropped a two-point lead (10-8). Enrico Cester turned into a hero for Lube as he finished the match with a quick attack and a kill block. The encounter ended partially 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-13.

The Bulgarian Tsvetan Sokolov topped Lube with 24 points (4 aces), followed by Osmany Juantorena, who notched 18. Giulio Sabbi scored 16 points (3 aces, 2 kill blocks) for Modena. Daniele Mazzone contributed with 5 kill blocks and 80% hitting (8/10).

Game 2 of the best-of-five semifinals between these two sides is scheduled for April 1.

No.1 Sir Safety Conad Perugia and No.4 Diatec Trentino will play their Game 1 tomorrow, on March 29.
