The preliminary pool stage of the Pan American Men’s Volleyball Cup concluded today in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Cuba and Canada advanced directly to the semifinals as pool leaders, while Colombia will face Puerto Rico and the United States will play against the Dominican Republic in the quarterfinals.
Cuba triumphed over the Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-13), finishing the preliminary round undefeated and topping Group B. Cuba dominated in attacks (54-45), blocks (10-7), and serves (9-5).
In Group A, defending champion Canada secured a direct ticket to the semifinals with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 26-24) victory against Chile, maintaining their unbeaten record. Canada excelled in attacks (37-25), blocks (10-4), and serves (4-4). Daenan Gyimah led Canada’s offense with 11 points, supported by Skyler Varga (10 points) and Jordan Canham (9 points).
Colombia defeated Peru 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16) to finish the preliminary round with a 3-1 record. Colombia’s attack was led by Gustavo Larrahondo (17 points), Daniel Aponza (14 points), Leandro Mejía (10 points), and Andrés Piza (9 points). Peru’s top scorer was Maikel Jaramillo with 22 points.
Puerto Rico swept Mexico 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-16), ending the preliminary round with one win and three losses. Klistan Lawrence was Puerto Rico’s most efficient player with 10 points, while Mauro Fuentes led Mexico with 10 points.
