Leon refused to play for Cuba‘s national team after not being allowed to play abroad. The 4-years suspension would be unprecedented, but the Cuban Volleyball Federation has the power to define the penalty wih the approval of government.
Typically, players who refuse to play for the national team get a two year suspension. and after that resume their careers in different centers in Europe.
Wilfredo is one of the best Cuban players. He started playing for the national team when he was 14, and at 17 he was the team captain.
