They once again showed a good performance, with smooth, cadenced, and diversified plays. In the first two sets, Russia was never able to seriously threaten its opponent and gave in 14-25 and 20-25.
Russia tried to change their line-up and carried out a few substitutions. It seems to pay off since in the third set, Russia started strong and the team was leading at both technical time-outs, respectively 8-5 and 16-14. Brazil bounced back at 18-18 before taking the lead 20-18. Although Russia came back to 21-21, Brazil was finally able to close the set on the score of 23-25.
The players of Yuriy Marichev ended up with 22 direct mistakes against only 9 for the Brazilians. The “seleção” was led by its number 7, Priscila Daroit, with 17 points. On the Russian side, all hitters made between 5 and 7 kills. Although this proves a good balance within the team, Russia maybe needed a leader and emergent player to kill the ball when needed tonight.
