FRIENDLIES M: Iran grounds Czechs, Bulgaria spoils Grbić’s debut

Favored national team of Iran caused severe defeat to the Czech Republic as visitor in České Budějovice, in the first out of two friendlies between these rivals.

It appeared too be good preperation  for the Czech national team for the 2015 World League because now it can see what it needs to improve before competition starts – 0-3 (18-25, 21-25, 15-25). Iran will participate in WL as well.

On Saturday, two teams will clash again, this time in Příbram and it will be the last test for the players coached by Zdeněk Šmejkal for the World League.

In another tonight’s friendly match, Bulgaria surprised Serbia (Nikola Grbić debuted as head coach) in Belgrade and won after a tie-break and two hours of fighting – 2-3 (25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 27-29, 8-15).

Nikolov with 22 and Todorov with 19 points were the best scorers in Bulgaria. Ivović had 14 for the Serbs.

Second clash between two team is scheduled for Saturday, also in Belgrade.
