The first match of 2021/22 Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship featured the titleholders and newcomers.
The new season of extremely strong PlusLiga started. The newcomers LUK Lublin made their debut in the national championship against the titleholders Jastrzębski Węgiel, who proved to be more successful in the encounter. However, driven by the support of 3,500 fans, Lublin showed a lot of potential at times: 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16).
Three freshly promoted Olympic champions made their debut in Jastrzębski: Benjamin Toniutti, Stéphen Boyer, and Trévor Clévenot. The last top-scored match, along with Tomasz Fornal, tallying 18 points. Boyer set up six blocks but didn’t excel in the attack (35 % effectiveness, 9/26, 15 points). Jakub Popiwczak made 70 % reception (20 digs, 50 % perfect).
