According to the rumors circulating on the web, we have another case in a series of defections of young Cuban volleyball players.
Cuban Gustavo Bolaños (number 10 in the photo) had left the national team of his country engaged in Sofia, Bulgaria, in the ongoing 2021 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship, unofficial information from several sources say. The track of the 19-year-old outside hitter, who was little used in the tournament, is lost. It is an episode to which we have been witnessing very often in the last 20 years and more during international volleyball events in base categories.
The last known case of young Cuban players who deserted their national team was in 2017 when two players of the women’s squad competing in the U23 World Championship escaped after it ended.
