Polish fans
Ever since Polish Federation parted ways with Frenchman Stéphane Antiga, names of many potential candidates to replace him have immediately started to circulate in media. As much as 16 famous volleyball coaches applied for the job so, Polish Federation had a tough task to narrow the choice, firstly to 5 names, and lately to 3 names.
But, why is the bench of the Polish National Team so attractive to all coaches? Why do all of these coaches race to take over ’Red and Whites’? There might be 5 reasons for that (not necessarily in that order).
1. Possibility to be loved by entire nation.
People in Poland are crazy about volleyball and those who achieve success with their national team are and will be celebrated as Gods and will never be forgotten in the history of the country.
2. Huge potential of the players competing for the Polish National Team.
Who would not want to be at the helm of a national team that has world-famous volleyball stars like Bartosz Kurek, Michał Kubiak, Fabian Drzyzga…? They just need some coach to make a team out of them and show them that recent poor results were only a transient weakness.
3. Possibility that Wilfredo León plays for Poland.
Cuban receiver is one of the five best players in the world in his position and he is so close to make his debut for the Polish NT. It will not happen this or next year due to paperwork problems but León will likely be set for the 2018 FIVB World Championship. Possibility to have such a player, who will definitely boost already amazing potential of the players competing for Poland, in the squad almost certainly guarantees a medal at any tournament. Which coach would want to miss this opportunity?
4. Poland will host 2017 CEV European Championship.
When you lead a national team that has such a fanatical volleyball nation supporting it, there is no bigger pleasure than to lead this national team before the eyes of the same nation! What a joy would be to win a gold medal in these conditions!
5. Possibility to take part at the 2020 Olympic Games.
There are many coaches that won a lot of trophies and medals among candidates to take over Polish NT, but winning a medal at the Olympic Games would be a crown of a career of every single coach. So, coach who would take over Polish National Team, knowing its potential, would have a huge chance to compete at the Olympic Games (if he signs a 4-year contract, which is the most common contract to be made with some national team). This might be the great item in the résumé of that coach, don’t you think?
