But, let’s be real. The absence of Muserskiy at the Olympic qualifying tournament is a huge blow for the Russian national team. It would be tough for anyone to compensate his experience and skills as a middle blocker.

The head coach of the Russian national team Vladimir Alekno called up 20-year old Iliya Vlasov, to replace one of the best players in the world in 21st century. Is he capable of doing that?

We will see. It is difficult to say. He could make some contribution, that’s for sure. But, they should not make additional pressure on this young guy. Because, he will be more useful if the pressure disappears.

But, let’s see the opinion of expert, who will answer the question – Is Vlasov the right replacement for Muserskiy?

“He is a very talented guy. We can’t compare him and Muserskiy because they are simply different – the style of the game, technique, ages… Iliya need lots and lots of work. But, the fact is that Iliya can help the team. He has good blocking skills. I think that his time in national team has come” says Yuri Panchenko, head coach of women’s team of Dynamo Moscow.
