Legendary coach, now the Russian Federation official, claims that the incorrectly compiled Superliga calendar prevents the Women’s NT to show stable results, while players who compete for Russia cannot reach the best possible form.
“We are hindered due to an unnecessarily extended calendar. Teams spend a lot of time on flights instead of spending this time on recovery of the players. Therefore, we have some players who still aren’t in the form – they simply do not have time to restore the condition,” a two-time Olympic Games winner as Russia’s head coach, Nikolay Karpol, said.
The results of the Russian Women’s NT in past year back up his words: the 5th place in the 2016 Rio Olympics, 4th place in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup, 4th place in the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix and 9th place in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix.
