“We are in good shape,” said Nikola Grbić shortly after the team arrived in Busto Arsizio.
“I am happy with the way our preparations for this tournament have gone so far since we have done everything we had planned. A couple of players are suffering minor injuries but they are anyway very experienced and have made the cut for this championship. These are things that can happen at any time, especially if you are talking about problems that have somehow become chronical,” he added.
“On the other hand, I think that there is no team that can count on the ideal, complete roster.”
Serbia have had an excellent 2015 season so far finishing second at the FIVB World League Finals in Rio de Janeiro where they lost to France in the gold medal match.
“Of course our goal is to make the final weekend in Sofia,” Grbić stresses. “However, we just can’t underestimate the teams of Slovakia and Finland. I have seen many teams starting their games with the wrong approach and attitude as they played weaker opponents, at least on paper, and they ended up paying a high price for this. We just can’t afford making this mistake and we have to stay 100% focussed against each and every opponent.”
