The winners of the last CEV Women’s Volleyball Cup, Eczacıbaşı Dynavit, continued shaping their squad for the 2022/23 season.
Eczacıbaşı contracted Russian bomber Irina Voronkova for the next season. The current CEV Cup winners announced that they “expect important contributions from Irina, who’s suitable for the structure of our team, can speak Turkish very well and knows Turkish culture well.”
The 26-year-old outside hitter is one of the pillars of the Russia National Team for which she has been competing since 2015. Voronkova had a very successful career in her home country, winning 5 Russian Championships, 3 Russian Cups, and 1 Russian Super Cup. While wearing the jersey of Dinamo-Ak Bars, she was involved in winning the CEV Champions League in 2014 and CEV Cup in 2017.
Voronkova was a member of Lokomotiv for the last 3 seasons during which she won the Russian Superliga 2 times and was awarded the competition’s MVP and Best Spiker once each, while she was also recognized as Russian Cup MVP once. Voronkova was Lokomotiv’s top scorer (the second-best scorer in the Superliga) last season with 670 points.
About a week ago, Eczacıbaşı closed starting middle blocker’s department for 2022/23.
