Have you ever heard of the expression „skyball“ serve in the volleyball terminology?

The „skyball“ serve is a kind of a volleyball serve which was mostly used in the 80s in order to confuse the reception of the rivals. It is a sort of an underhand serve (holding a ball with one hand and hitting it with the other one by making a swing) but the one that goes higher in the air than usual. Of course, there are variations of making the „skyball“ serve in the sense of how high the ball flies before falling on the other side of the net. The higher you want it to fly, the more skillful you need to be while making the serve.

This guy from the Japanese Men’s Championship (or perhaps, from the Japanese College League) has probably made one of the highest „skyball“ serves ever! It seems, he did it even higher than the Brazilian National Team player from 1983. Interestingly, some future stars of the Japanese National Team took part in this match, like Tatsuya Ueta and Masayuki Izumikawa
