VfB has only two points after three rounds with Zenit KAZAN topping the standings of Pool A with nine and Knack ranked second with six. This means the home match with Knack is crucial in order to maintain some chances to make it through the prelims and advance to the Playoffs 12.
“We definitely have to win if we want to stand a chance to make it to the Playoffs” says head coach Stelian Moculescu. “We shall concentrate on our game, perform well in reception, and pressure our opponents from the serving line”. Last week it just did not work and VfB suffered a 1:3 defeat in Belgium. “This is an opponent that we can generally edge” adds setter Juraj Zatko. “We should have claimed the first set, while in the third and fourth we had problems with our reception and lacked the necessary self-confidence”.
The service will be an extremely important fundamental to put some pressure on the guests from Belgium. “They have a solid reception and their libero Stijn Dejonckheere is good” adds Moculescu. Hendrik Tuerlinckx and Dirk Westphal anchored their offense this past week scoring 23 and 16 points respectively. “We have to play more accurately and reduce our mistakes to a minimum. I expect a win but we have to fight bravely to deserve it” stresses the Slovak setter of VfB. “I enjoy every single game we play at ZF Arena as our fans provide us with all the support we need. The support of the crowd may be the deciding factor in determining the final result of our match with Knack” he stresses.
