After thrilling quarterfinal clashes, Argentina and Puerto Rico have stamped their tickets to the semifinals of the XX Senior Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.
In a riveting match, Argentina overcame Canada with a 3-1 scoreline (25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-12) at the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns Auditorium in Ponce. Leading the charge for Argentina was Bianca Cugno with a stellar 25 points. She was ably supported by Paula Nizetich and Candelaria Herrera, each contributing 16 points. On the Canadian side, Andrea Mitrovic and Hilary Howe stood out with 16 points apiece, while Shainah Joseph added 12. Argentina now gears up to face the USA in the semifinals, while Canada will battle it out with Peru in the 5-8 qualifying match.
Puerto Rico, the host nation, kept their fans on the edge of their seats in a nail-biting contest against Colombia. They fought back from a 1-2 set deficit, finally clinching the match 3-2 with set scores of 25-20, 17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-11. Alondra Vázquez led Puerto Rico’s scoring with 18 points, and Dariana Hollinsgworth chipped in with 15 points. For Colombia, Ana Karina Olaya emerged as the top scorer with 19 points, followed closely by Dayana Segovia and Amanda Coneo with 18 and 16 points respectively. While Colombia will now face Mexico for the 5-8 classification match, Puerto Rico is set for a showdown against the Dominican Republic in the semifinals.
