Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie confirmed that Uroš Kovačević will be parting ways with the team, despite holding a contract valid until 2024. Russian outlet BO Sport hinted back in April 2023 that Kovačević could be moving to Ural Ufa for the upcoming season.
After joining from Beijing Baic Motors in 2021, Kovačević swiftly became a linchpin for the Polish club. In his debut season, he clinched a bronze medal, even though an ankle injury kept him from the decisive match. His prowess was on full display when he topped the charts as PlusLiga’s best attacking player and even carried the team to victory against Cuprum Lubin without the assistance of both setters.
After signing an extension in 2022, Kovačević seemed set to continue his tenure in Poland. However, a tempting offer from another club swayed his decision. “Uroš received an extremely lucrative offer and wanted to take it,” said Kryspin Baran, the president of the club. “We’ve been on the hunt for a replacement and finally found a top-class receiver. We’re grateful for the significant role Uroš played during his time here.”
Over two seasons with the yellow-green, Kovačević featured in 65 league games, four Polish Cup matches, and eight Champions League appearances, amassing a whopping 1364 points. With a 50.86% efficiency in attacks and 17 MVP trophies to his name, his departure will undoubtedly leave a void in Zawiercie’s lineup.
