The 2016 Olympic champion, the 2019 Brazilian Superliga winner, and the Best Outside Hitter of the 2018 FIVB World Championship, Douglas Souza, participated in a live interview on the social media of his club EMS Taubaté Funvic, answering questions from fans. Amongst many topics in a 45-minute chat, he talked about what he wants to be remembered.
“I want to be remembered as Douglas who made history as the first homosexual in volleyball who managed to play at a high level. I want to be a mirror of non-standard people. I’m non-standard. I’m also extremely thin and that scares many. If I, a skinny, tiny boy from the interior of São Paulo succeeded, you’ll also succeed. That’s how I want to be remembered,” the 24-year-old player said.
