Chinese outside hitter Zhu Ting, a one-time Olympic Games winner and probably the best female Volleyball player in the world at the moment, still did not choose in which club she will continue her career. What is sure and known from earlier, she will play in her home country...

Sohu reported that 3 teams in China are battling for Zhu’s signature for the next season after she parted ways with the Turkish side VakifBank, taking a break from a career abroad to better prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. These teams are Beijing, Tianjin and Guangdong. And it seems logical, knowing that these 3, plus Shanghai, are the only clubs in the Chinese Super League to have budgets to cover a transfer of such a player like Zhu. Shanghai have never been in the game for the Rio Olympics MVP knowing that they already hired a foreign duo Larson and Lippmann, which means that Zhu would not have enough room to be the main attacking option.

Recall that before moving to VakifBank in 2016, Zhu defended the colors of Henan, who was far from the top teams in the Super League last season.

As for the trio of clubs that battles for hiring Zhu, according to Sohu, Tianjin and Guangdong have the most chances from the point of view of the lineups they currently have. As for Beijing, they probably fell off from the competition because they signed an American outside hitter Bartsch and kept the country’s national team member Liu Xiaotong, who is playing on the same position. Beijing also kept opposite hitter and another China national team player Zeng Chunlei. It is obvious how crowded it will be in Beijing next season in terms of who will have the most spikes.

Tianjin might have an upper hand in acquiring Zhu given that the club is based in the birthplace of China head coach Lang Ping, which means that the expert would have a chance to make sure on Zhu's shape on regular basis.

WC 2019 W: Brazil beat weakened team of Serbia in thriller, China win Asian derby

Because the VNL consists of teams that have been invited by the FIVB, rather than have truly qualified for it based on competitive criteria. These teams (e.g. Belgium & Slovenia with the men) would unjustifiedly lose a lot of points on the ranking because they didn't pay the FIVB enough to participate. on the other hand weak teams like South Korea would see their ranking go up just purely by participating.

In its current format the VNL is nothing but a worthless demonstration tournament of friendly games... :-(

The results of the VNLs don't give the participating national teams any points for the FIVB rankings. Does anybody or WorldofVolley has any idea, why? Reply
