The member of Italy’s Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, Aaron Russell, was operated back home in the clinic in Colorado for the definitive resolution of the hip problem that affected him at the very end of the season in SuperLega.
The recovery time will be evaluated in the next few days, and in the meantime, the 27-year-old player will remain in the US waiting to start the rehabilitation process for the return on the court for the next club season. This means that Russell won’t be competing in the next Olympics – the event in whose last edition (Rio 2016) he was awarded Best Outside Hitter – in Tokyo. This season, Russell was one of the best players in the Italian league, scoring 357 points in 22 games.

Russell had one of the best sports surgeons in the world work on him so I expect he will be in great hands. While devastating for any athlete Russell is young enough to have both Paris and Los Angeles in his Olympic future at very high level.
Piacenza is building something very special there and Russell is a perfect type of player and professional to attract others to come there and build around.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
Unfortunately there is no future for Russell. He is old and after this operation, he cannot recover and remain the same level before 🙁
