The home heroes of Luxembourg are still in contention for the trophy after scoring two straight victories. They opened their campaign by routing USA Steven Ducks in straight sets (25-20, 25-23, and 25-21) and on Saturday they were able to have the upper hand at the end of a real drama as they played France’s LISSP CALAIS (3:2; 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 17-25, and 15-12). On Sunday they will round out the tournament playing a young German team, an opponent that seems to be within their reach as they lost in straight sets to CALAIS in the first round of the competition.
Luxembourg women’s national team, on the other hand, has lost two matches in a row; on Friday France’s Terville Florange Olympique Club – the former team of the late Denitza Krivova – edged the players from the Grand Duchy in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, and 25-20) while on Saturday the “Lionesses” were bested by a young German team including players born in 1998 and 1999 with the score of 1:3 (22-25, 16-25, 25-22, and 21-25). After two days Terville Florange tops the charts being the sole team with two victories after Saturday the French side edged a young team from Azerbaijan 3:1 (17-25, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-15). On Sunday the tournament will draw to a close with Luxembourg playing Azerbaijan and Terville taking on the U16 German girls around head coach Jens Tietböhl.
