Big changes could be coming to the world of volleyball transfers. The Polish Volleyball League (PLS) is leading a push to introduce a formal transfer window, aiming to bring more structure and transparency to player moves. According to Przegląd Sportowy Onet, PLS President Artur Popko revealed that Poland will propose a transfer period from May 15 to June 30 during an upcoming meeting with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and top league representatives.
Why the Change?
Right now, volleyball transfers often happen behind the scenes, with some players signing contracts more than a year in advance. While clubs usually announce deals in June after contracts officially expire, negotiations often take place much earlier—sometimes even mid-season. This has led to growing concerns from clubs and players alike.
Last year, representatives from Poland, Italy, Turkey, Japan, and Brazil successfully established a fixed calendar for international tournaments through 2028. Now, Polish officials hope to take the next step by regulating the transfer market in a similar way. As discussions continue, the transfer market is already heating up.
If the proposed transfer window is approved, it could bring volleyball more in line with other professional sports leagues, providing clarity, fairness, and better planning for clubs, players, and fans alike.
