In an interview for WorldofVolley, he speaks about the plans, last season, EuroVolley…

Are you preparing for 2017/2018 season?

I am practicing with MOK Krka, the local team here in Novo Mesto where I live 2/3 times a week. Besides that, I am practicing with HAOK Mladnost in Zagreb under the leadership of Ljubo Travica 1/2 times a week, because this team is a bit better than the local team here in Novo Mesto! Also, Ivan Raic and Danijel Galic, who are also waiting for a club, are preparing with this team. So, it’s a good level of practice. I am also going to the gym, 50 meters away from my house. It’s an old-style bodybuilding gym where I can do all my weights for volleyball! I’m there 4 or 5 times a week! All together this makes me directly available for any club out there to play,” explains Kay Van Dijk.

Did you have any other offers for the season 2017/2018?

I was busy with a team in Turkey for a long time but in the end, they decided to sign a different player. It was a disappointing moment for me because I would have loved to stay in Turkey. I have some small offers, we will see what will come up next! I have been in a lot of countries and we will see where the next one will be! I’m ready!”

How would you describe your last season?

My last season in Ziraat was fine but I knew I would sign as the second opposite behind Marcus Nilsson. I signed in Turkey because I really wanted to play there one season and to introduce myself to the Turkish league. I got some opportunities, because of the injury of Marcus and I believe I played well. After Marcus’ recovery, I had to make again a place for him. I loved playing in Turkey and would go back there in a moment.”

You had been left out for the European Championship. How did you feel after this decision?

I had one of my best tournaments in May with the Dutch national team, qualifying for the World Championships 2018. So, I know I’m ready for some good league! Unfortunately, the coach didn’t want to bring me to the Eurovolley, where I could have made a contribution the team.! It was the last minute cut which was a huge surprise for me and the team.  However, you have to deal with it and keep on going. It makes me only more eager, fired up and motivated to play a great season this year,” finishes Kay van Dijk.
