by WoV

Ten years ago Italy won their first ever FIVB World Cup in women’s category.

The first matches at the FIVB World Cup in Japan 2007 were played on November 2 and Italy started the competition with the victory over Thailand.

The tournament was played by the single Round-Robin system and Italy scored 11 wins, losing only two sets from Serbia

That year they defeated Thailand, Dominican Republic, Korea, Serbia, Japan, Poland, Kenya, Peru, Brazil, Cuba, and USA. As the winners, “Azzurre” qualified to the Olympic Games 2008 with Brazil and USA who won the silver and bronze medals.
