WL: Brazil takes 3 points against Serbia on Murilo’s comeback

Brazil, defeated Serbia in their second clash in three days in Belo Horizonte. This time, home team needed four sets and thus, it won 3 points. Brazil – Serbia 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22) in Pool B of the 2015 World League. Brazilian star Murilo returned to the national team after his FIVB suspension expired.

Brazil established its dominance from the start of the match, taking a 8-5 lead. When Isac blocked Kovačević, it was clear that the first set will go into favor of the home team. Lucarelli was unstopppable and Brazil was heading towards 16-11 at the second technical time-out. Serbians couldn’t cope with the attacking ideas of Brazilian setter William (23-16). Lucarelli ended first set (25-18).

Serbian team had a fantastic start of the second set with two aces from Ivović (1-4). Thanks to Wallace, Brazil didn’t need much to equalize (4-4). The same player gave Brazilians a 7-5 lead after strong serve. There was no return for the guests, especially because the Brazilian players served amazingly. After another ace, this time from Riad, the home team gained an unreachable advantage (11-7). Kovačević had several highlights, but Serbia made too many errors (22 in the first two sets so, Brazil had 18-12. Brilliant behind setting from Raphael to the middle blocker Riad sealed this set (25-20).

Serbians were determined not to give up in three sets. Good defense gave them plenty opportunities for counter attacks. Lisinac scored quick attack and Kovačević sealed an ace (3-7). When Brdjović blocked Murilo one-on-one, it was 4-9. An ace from Podraščanin gave Serbians a 7-13 lead, but Brazil had a 5-0 run (12-13)! Wallace destroyed Serbian defense with serves. If it wasn’t an ace than it was a strong serve that caused a lot of trouble. Serbia returned with 1-4 run (13-17) and slowly increased the gap until the final 19-25.

Huge fight was seeen in the fourth set. Riad was brilliant!  He blocked, served well and scored quick attacks. Thanks to him, Brazil was constantly in the lead (13-10). Ivović and Kovačević took care for an equalizer (13-13). It was point by point play until Brazil made a 3-0 run that was crowned by Riad’s one-on-one block on Lisinac (23-20). Brazilians didn’t miss the opportunity to end the match in four sets (25-22).
