For such a major volleyball nation like Russia, not winning a medal in both competitions at the 2016 Rio Olympics is an enormous failure. Thus, a destiny of head coach Vladimir Alekno is in hands of Russia’s Volleyball Federation. Is he going to stay at helm of Men’s national team or not?

After the bronze medal match in Rio which Russia NT lost to USA 3-2, the President of the Russian Volleyball Federation, Stanislav Shevchenko, reported that Alekno currently has no plans to leave his position.

„There were no talks on Alekno’s resignation. The Coaching Council and Presidium will decide on that and it will be in October,“ stated Shevchenko.

@M his return to the national team of russia he already accomplish good result they won the european qulifier they finished 7th in world league and 4th in rio olympics. alekno is not a god who can turn everything just like that, as he said on his interview their is a problem he wants to find out what it is, only time can tell, they just need to give him time. keep him until tokyo 2020 you will see russia will be back on the olympic podium in tokyo 2020.

well, it’s really not alekno’s fault. voronkov DESTROYED the men’s national team during his stead. russia had so many young players with so much potential (vlasov, poletaev, kurkaev, and even kobzar and kliuka, to name a few), but were never given proper exposure. alekno literally had to fix the team in a matter of MONTHS, and i think reaching 4th in Rio was an achievement already for him. i hope he stays as head coach.
