You will not see him being emotional during matches very often, whether his team is losing or winning. But, on several occasions during the final of the 2019 CEV European Women’s Volleyball Championship against Turkey, Serbia National Team head coach Zoran Terzić could not hold back from expressing his feelings. After all, it was an intense match, filled with turnarounds.

“Frankly, if we had played anywhere else, probably we would have won easier, by some other result. This was a hell in which we had never played before, not even close. From the first to the last point there was an amazing atmosphere. We didn’t have any communication with players because we couldn’t hear each other. It happens that we play well and win a competition by losing one or two sets, but it happens that we play weaker and win again. This is a true team that is not afraid of anything, who always wins and who is used to winning,” Terzić stated for the Radio Television of Serbia after the match against Turkey.

“It’s a great feeling but I have to say it wasn’t easy to play in such an atmosphere. Turkey is a very good team. I think our coach did a great job today. He made some changes in the right moments. I’m so happy and proud because, as I said before, it’s more difficult to defend a championship title than to win one. All eyes were on us because we were the defending champions. There was a lot of pressure. In the pool phase, we didn’t play our best game but we got better with each match. We played great in the tie-break. It was magical. We managed to come back from a 3-point deficit. It’s not easy to do so in a tie-break. We had more experienced players and this helped a lot. We had a big wish, I know Turkey also wanted to win but maybe we were more motivated to win,” Maja Ognjenović, the captain and a setter of Serbia, said to the website of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV).
