Having defeated the German side Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys Haching in four sets at home in the second leg of the quarterfinals, Russia’s Zenit Saint Petersburg reached the semifinals of the 2020 CEV Men’s Volleyball Cup.

AlpenVolleys gave a hard time to Zenit in the first match, repeating a part of that performance in the rematch.

The first two sets were extremely difficult for the hosts as the German team led by a 10-6 and 11-6, respectively. In both cases, the wards of Tuomas Sammelvuo managed to catch up with the opponents. But, unlike the opening set which they end victoriously, in the second set things were opposite. However, Zenit didn’t give rivals a glimmer of hope in the third and fourth sets.

German György Grozer top-scored for Zenit with 21 points. Canadian Jerome Cross tallied 15 points for AlpenVolleys.
