Andrea-Anastasi
A 57-year-old Italian expert Anastasi, currently at the helm of Trefl Gdańsk, Poland, added the fourth national team to his coaching résumé. Before taking over Belgium, who remained without a head coach after the 2017 CEV European Championship, Anastasi led Italy, Spain, and Poland.
He signed the contract with the Belgian federation until 2019 with the option of extending it in case of qualifying for the 2020 Olympics.
“The most important goal this season is the World Championships in Italy and Bulgaria.Belgium had an amazing result at the European Championship last season and they have a great national team. Sam Deroo is an amazing player, although he plays for our opponent, Zaksa Kędzierzyn-Koźle, I am sure he will do even better when working with me. Belgium has good players who play in France, Italy, Iran, and all over the world. I am proud to be the coach of Belgium,“ Anastasi said.
