Therefore, captain Maret Balkestein – Grothues talks about the preparations for the most important tournament of the year.

We train hard and very much, from Monday to Friday, twice a day. That is very good for us as a group. We can invest nicely in strength training, in technical training and physically better. The period after the holiday is so spicy, but also very nice. Everything is focused on the World Championship, that is the main goal this summer. This is also mentioned several times a week, if not every day. We want to be good at the World Championship so that’s where our focus lies. That keeps us sharp.” said Maret and added:

These weeks of preparation are very important to get even better. We have many practice matches in August and September and that is also very good. Playing a lot of matches and learning to adapt against different opponents is essential towards the World Championship. We become much stronger as a team because we are growing towards each other in terms of play. Outside the court, things are going very well, but inside, as you saw at the VNL, things have to improve to be able to achieve the top four of the world.

From August 7 to 9 you will host Italy, Russi and Turkey in Rabobank Super Series?

“The Rabobank Super Series seems very nice to me, I can hardly wait until we start. For me, it is extra nice, because we also play in Eindhoven for two days. Many family and friends will be present for me, always fun. We will play against top countries and that is very good and important for us as a team towards the World Championship.”
