Sada Cruzeiro – Zenit Kazan semifinal is a rematch of the last two finals of the competition. The Brazilian champions beat the Russian champions on both counts in 2015 (3-1) and 2016 (3-0), but both before a home crowd in Betim. It is the first time the two teams come head-to-head on neutral ground.

Lube Civitanova – PGE Skra Belchatow meet for the first time in the history of the competition, as the Italian champions are making their debut appearance this year. Skra were twice runners-up in 2009 and 2010 and also picked up a bronze in 2012.
