France started out very aggressive in each set going up 5:1, 8:3 and 8:0 and this set the tone for what was going to follow. While they dominated the scene in the first and third set with massive scores (25-13 and 25-14), the second was a little closer with Portugal moving even to the front at 6:5 and keeping the score tight up to 12 all. However, after that France accelerated the pace and did not look back anymore finishing it off at 25-20.
“It feels good to finish second as Serbia is clearly the best team in the group and they deserve to make it to the World Championship” France’s mentor Gael Le Draoulec said.
“I am not totally satisfied because we missed out on a spot for the Worlds and we did not play good enough with Serbia” team captain Kim Nowak added.
“France played really good tonight and though we played fairly good in reception we could not keep their pace” Portugal’s mentor Gilda Harris stressed.“They were better and deserved to win”.
“We played very bad tonight while France performed well in every fundamental, so their victory is well deserved” Portugal’s team captain Ana Martins concluded.
