The first results were presented last week. The Bundesliga team starts with seven new players into the 2012/2013 season. Last Wednesday it was the first time the club shed light on the new team, its management, coaches and staff. During the public meeting not only a large group of fans was present but also many sponsors and media representatives came to the Sachsengarage, a car dealer and generous sponsor of the club.
This year’s newcomers are Dutchwoman Myrthe Schoot (from Rote Raben VILSBIBURG), the Czech Martina Utla (VfB 91 SUHL), Belgian Laura Heyrman (Asterix KIELDRECHT) as well as a foursome from Germany’s junior national team composed by Magdalena Gryka, Lisa Izquierdo, Lisa Stock and Juliane Langgemach (actually all from Dresden’s own farm team VC Olympia Dresden).
“From my point of view, we are the only club within the Bundesliga that puts the highest amounts of energy into a sustainable development of young players when it comes to a successful transition from the junior to the senior level. There have never been so many young and strong athletes in our senior team before. Ten out of fifteen players were recruited from our own farm team and will be in the line-up of this year’s first league team” head coach Alexander Waibl proudly stresses. Again this season, DRESDNER SC will start in three different competitions: the German Championships, the DVV-Cup, and the CEV Volleyball Champions League. To master the triple burden with the most success, the side will rely on a balanced mixture of young talents and experienced players. “In the national league our aim is to achieve a good position in the standings and start with a great momentum into the Playoffs. After years of absence, we would also like to be part of the DVV-Cup final again and celebrate a big party together with our loyal fans. In the Champions League we are able to tease all three European top teams” so Waibl expresses this year’s aims.
Also Chairman Jörg Dittrich presents himself pugnaciously: “We are feisty and want to make it to the top! I am very happy for the great support of many sponsors who enabled us to increase the club’s budget to 1.3 Million. As we will accept the sportive competition, we will also accept the challenge that takes place between the different sports clubs active in the city of Dresden. We can proudly present the results of the latest survey that has shown we are the sports club in Dresden that has the most positive influence on the image of the city”, explains Dittrich. In addition to this great response, he also wishes for a constant full house at every home game to further increase the average attendance in the league.
As already mentioned, not only the present team shows some new faces. There have been some changes also in its environment. Till Müller has become the team’s new chief scout, whereas Mirco Theurer has taken up as athletic coach together with the physiotherapy company “Mai Physio” thereby being in charge of the players’ physical development and treatment.
Even within the ranks of the general management changes have taken place. Dörte Gregor is the new head of the marketing and sponsoring division and supports Beatrice Dömeland. Gregor will be responsible for implementing projects such as the new development of family tickets and the design of the new DSC mascot. By the same token she will take care of the acquisition of new sponsors as well as mentoring them.
In the end, the DSC used its first moment in public to satisfy a lot of their fans’ wishes such as signing a lot of autographs, taking many pictures, and talking intensively about the hard pre-season program, the pleasant anticipation of the upcoming season and the great support of their fans.
