This is the second appearance for the club in Europe’s most elitist competition with the other opponents for the preliminary phase being Germany’s SCHWERINER SC and Dinamo KAZAN of Russia that are set to play there on the banks of the Black Sea this coming October 30 and November 13 respectively.
“The Pool is extremely tough and we evidently start as the underdogs since every single side participating in the CEV Volleyball Champions League has got a budget that you simply can’t compare with ours” said club president Costinel Stan while addressing the local journalists and other media. “We have six rounds coming up and our goal is to play as solid as possible”.
With many new players, the team will head for Italy despite not being able to prepare thoroughly. This year the Champions League starts much earlier and this has somehow negatively influenced the plans worked out by head coach Darko Zakoc.
“This is our second participation in the most prestigious Volleyball competition there is out there and we are proud of our success. Our problem is that the Champions League begins earlier than last year and the team needed more time to develop the right chemistry. We needed at least another month to be able to say that we are in a good shape. Unfortunately, we don’t have this luxury and we will begin with two very tough matches, particularly the one in Urbino. We hope to deliver a good performance and to build up our morale for the matches to come” said the Serbian-born mentor.
