ECH W: Italy defeated Poland in straight sets for match against defending champ’s in quarterfinals (PHOTO)

Compared to the first game of the play-off between Turkey – and Belarus, this was more exciting match. Italy defeated Poland in straight sets 3:0 (25:22, 25:22, 25:13) and qualified for the quarterfinals, where they will play against defending champions, Serbia.

From the beginning, Italy have showed that they really want to fight for the medal. In the first set, Italy after both TTO had a lead, 8:6 and 16:10. They continue to play very good and didn’t allow to Polish girls to come closer. Italy have clinched first set 25:22.

The result of the second set was the same like in first, 25:22. Poland from minute to minute didn’t succeeded to stop great Italian attacks.

In last set, moral of Polish girls fell down, so the Italian girls easily took the third set (25:13) and arranged the quarterfinals match on Wednesday with Serbia.

Carolina Costagrande and Cristina Chirichella were the best scorers in Italy with 15 points, while Maja Tokarska finished with 10 in Poland.
