ITA M: Latina knows what’s wrong – lack of training

by WoV

The hosts got off to a perfect start by taking the two first set of the encounter on Saturday night but in the end Starovic’s outburst of 30 points were still not enough to stop Cuneo, which came back and won it in the tie-break. Coach Piazza tried all the substitutions possible and in the end had the last word. Francesco Fortunato made his debut with Latina. In the tie-break, Cuneo led from start to finish.

Dario Simoni (coach Andreoli Latina): “In the two days we’ve trained we had a bit of a physical dip after an hour and that’s happened again today. This is what I was afraid of. We played brilliantly for two sets and then the lack of training sessions took its toll, we lost our rhythm”.

Jeroen Rauwerdink (Bre Lannutti Cuneo): “We knew it was going to be a difficult game against a motivated team after the sack of its coach. We were prepared for a long game. We are in better shape than them physically, but we have a lot to work on. In the first two sets we did not play cleverly and struggled to deal with their serve. It was nice to come back in Latina after the great year I spent here last season. I hope they’ll get back up in the table”.
