The opening weekend of Italy’s Serie A1 volleyball delivered drama and excitement across the board. In a standout match, Wash4Green Pinerolo took the first set in an incredible 40-38 against Numia Vero Volley Milano. Despite the early victory, Milano recovered to win 3-1, led by a dominant performance from MVP Nika Daalderop with 19 points. Pinerolo’s effort was spearheaded by Malwina Smarzek’s 23 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure the match.
Elsewhere, Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri claimed a thrilling 3-2 derby win over Igor Gorgonzola Novara. Despite a strong showing from Novara’s Tolok and Ishikawa, who combined for 44 points, Chieri’s Gicquel (18 points) and MVP Avery Skinner (17 points) secured the victory.
Il Bisonte Firenze pulled off a stunning comeback, defeating Megabox Ond. Savio Vallefoglia 3-2 after being down 1-2. Standout performances from Malual (21 points), Butigan (15 points, 8 blocks), and MVP Nervini led Firenze to a memorable win, despite strong opposition from Lee (19 points) and Giovannini (18 points) for Vallefoglia.
Smi Roma Volley also impressed, bouncing back from a 0-1 deficit to beat Cda Volley Talmassons 3-1, with Gabriela Orvošová scoring 27 points and MVP team libero, Zannoni starring in the win. Meanwhile, Bergamo swept Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia 3-0.
Finally, Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano celebrated a 3-0 win over Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio. MVP Khalia Lanier (13 points) and Isabelle Haak (15 points) led the reigning champions in a dominant performance.
