ITA vs. SRB
The first set was total disaster for Serbia! They barely managed to score 14 points! The head coach Nikola Grbić had to stop Vettori who had scored 6 points with an impressive 71% offensive percentage!
And Serbian national team managed to do that! Starović replaced Atanasijević and it was the right choice by the head coach of away side. From the beginning Serbia was leading (4-2, 9-6, 12-11, 14- 11, 16-13, 18-13, 19-16, 21-16).
Vettori was not the same man from the first set and his mistake gave Serbia the first set 1:1! After two sets, believe it or not, Nikola Kovačević had 100% offensive efficiency, 7-7.
Ace by Birarelli gave Italy the early lead in the third set. Ivan Zaytsev was not fully recovered but his tried to help his teammates. It didn’t work in the third part of the game. Simply, Serbia served strong and reduced number of mistakes from the service line.
From the first TTO Grbić’s side had 8-4 lead and Italy couldn’t reduce the rival’s advantage. Nikola Kovačević was the man who closed the third set and gave his team 2-1 lead!
In the fourth set Berutto’s side woke up and started playing much better! After Vettori‘s strike and Starović‘s mistake Italy tied the score 2-2!
In the decisive set, Serbia didn’t have solution for Zaytsev who was dominating during tie-break. Petrić tried to reduce Italy‘s lead but Anzani blocked him for 3-2 win!
Vettori was the top scorer with 17 points, while Anzani added 16. On the other side, N. Kovačević had 16, Petrić and Starović 14 each!
