The hosts, after a close start, immediately imposed their quality (10:6, 20:11) but a good reaction by the guests from Ukraine re-opened the set (22:18) forcing head coach Davide Mazzanti to ask for a time-out. LUTSK could cut the gap to three points but PIACENZA regained control of the game and wrapped it up at 25-20.
Another close start followed in set 2 (4:4) but PIACENZA then moved the score to 9:4 and 12:6; the hosts easily controlled the operations (18:11) and could go for the provisional 2:0 (25-15).
Things did not change in set 3, 5:0 for PIACENZA that sped up to 18:8 and called for the golden set by seizing the final 25-16.
There LUTSK caught a good start going up 3:1 and 5:2, PIACENZA could no more close this gap and with a strenuous defense the Ukrainians could seal the final 15-10 that books their ticket for the 1/8 finals.
