Despite Japan’s shocking quarterfinal exit at the Paris 2024 Games, captain Yuki Ishikawa is undeterred. The 28-year-old volleyball star, who led Japan to silver in the Volleyball Nations League and a top FIVB ranking, plans to return for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Ishikawa, who scored 32 points in the crushing defeat to Italy after leading 2-0 and holding a 24-21 lead in the third set, expressed his determination to redeem the loss. Reflecting on the importance of each point and inspired by a similar scenario in the U.S.-Serbia basketball semifinal, he believes he can bring Japan to the podium in four years.
