The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) informed that Suriname has withdrawn from playing the Continental Championship in Winnipeg due to unforeseen circumstances.

The media in Suriname gave more details on the situation, reporting that the President of the countries Volleyball federation (Suvobo), Verdy Getrouw, named too many problems and financial uncertainties as reasons for canceling participation.

This means that all matches of Suriname in Pool A will end in a forfeit (25-0, 25-0-25-0), starting with the first one against the hosts Canada.

Suriname assured their place in Continental Championship by winning the 2018 Caribbean Cup, the tournament organized by the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA), for the first time ever.
