As of the year 2013/2014, the Belgian competition model will be used for the Eredivisie and DELA Eredivisie.
Ten or eight teams, two or four times against each other, playoffs or no playoffs? These are the questions which Nevobo was trying to get answers to. The clubs wanted clarity and their desire to take over the Belgian model was accepted by the Nevobo.
In the model, 10 teams will play two mutual game (home and away). After eighteen rounds, the league splits into the playoffs (1-6) and play-downs (7-10). The first six teams will play again a normal competition, the leading team starts with five points, the number two with four, etc. After ten rounds, the number three will play in Europe. The numbers one and two play a finals series for the national championship.
The numbers seven through ten of the regular league play normal competition in the play-downs. The number seven starts with three points, the number eight with two points, etc. After this competition the last team goes to Topdivisie. Champion of Topdivisie goes to Eredivisie.
