The men’s volleyball club season in Argentina started in a way that promises a very interesting 2021/22.
Club Asociación Mutual Policial achieved a historical result – they won the 2021 Argentinian Men’s Cup (Copa ACLAV). In the final in Mar del Plata, the club from Formosa swept Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires (also known as Ciudad Vóley), with partials 25-20, 25-19 and 25-22. It is the first success of Policial in the highest category of national volleyball in Argentina – no wonder given they have played in the second division for years, which they won a few months ago and will play in the topflight, Liga de Vóleibol Argentina, in 2021/22.
Policial lost only one set between the quarter-final and final, eliminating national champions and the last Cup winners, UPCN San Juan Vóley. Rodrigo Ocampo top-scored Policial in the decider with 23 points, including five blocks. Marcos Richards (21 digs, one error, 48% excellent) and Tomás Rodríguez (14 digs, 43% excellent) made 71% reception, while Colombian Carlos Mosquera had 71% attack (10/14).
