Rolando Cepeda was Cuba’s best weapon, scoring a match high of 16 points, followed closely by Santiago Uriarte with 14 points. On the other side Tomas Aguilera and Daniel Vargas scored 8 points each for Mexico.
Cuban captain Rolando Cepeda: “We played the same way we train. We are always prepared to win. Mexico had some problems and we used them to our advantage. We have an immense desire to win, which allowed us to finish unbeaten in the pool.”
Mexico’s coach Sergio Hernandez: “This was a bad match for us. Cuba dominated with their serves and their effectiveness in defence. No one likes to lose. I’m not justifying my team, but Daniel Vargas and Tomas Aguilera, two of my key players, weren’t able to perform at their 100% due to minor injuries.”
Mexican captain Jorge Quiñones:”We played with impetus and with heart, but Cuba are a superior team and they pushed hard from the start. We really wanted to win all three matches, but we still need to be prepared for future matches.”
