Last night was another unforgettable moment for young Slovenian volleyball talents, the golden generation of girls, born in 1996 and 1997, the winners of the silver medal at the 2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship - Women in Estonia and Finland and the winners of a gold medal at the 2013 European Youth Olympic Festival in the Netherlands.

The Bloudek plaque, the most prestigious sports honours in the Republic of Slovenia, was awarded to the Slovenian junior women’s national team for special achievements in sport. The 50th award ceremony was held at the Cankarjev dom in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana and the plaque was not the only award in volleyball.

Since the Bloudek awards have a wider dimension than other sports awards, they also involve awards for an exceptional contribution to the development of sport and honour lifetime achievement. This year’s award for lifetime achievement in sport was conferred to Tone Ficko, a former Slovenian volleyball player, coach, referee and referee delegate.
