The top two teams in the world have already met in the second week of the Preliminary Round with USA winning 3-1 on Brazilian soil on June 17. USA qualified in impressive style for the Finals with maximum points with nine wins from as many matches, conceding only two sets along the way while Brazil finished in fifth, handing second-placed China their only defeat of the Preliminary Round with a straight sets win on the final day.
USA lead the head to head in World Grand Prix matches 10:6 and won the last three encounters including at the 2011 World Cup and last year’s World Grand Prix Finals. The repeat of the 2008 Olympic Games final, which Brazil won, at 13:00 (local time) is followed by World Grand Prix Finals debutants Turkey against Thailand, who are world ranked 11th and 12th respectively, at 15:30 before hosts China, ranked fifth in the world, take on world No. 10 Cuba at 19:30.
All six teams will play each other once before the table leaders will be crowned the 2012 World Grand Prix champions on Sunday.
The two top sides from the Preliminary Round – USA and China – are due to meet the in the last match of the Finals on Sunday.
